Plot (single player)

On February 25, 1968, SOG operative Alex Mason is strapped to a chair in an interrogation room and Mason try to answer the question by recalling several events. In 1961, Mason, Woods, and Bowman take part in Operation 40 to assassinate Fidel Castro in Cuba and Mason apparently succeeds and stays behind to protect the extraction plane from an oncoming blockade, before being captured by the real Castro, having shot a double. Handed over to General Nikita Dragovich to be held captive at Vorkuta Gulag, Mason befriends inmate Viktor Reznov, the former Red Army soldier. Weaver is captured and Kravchenko stabs out his left eye. Mason and his team rescue him and destroy the Soyuz spacecraft, while Woods apparently kills Dragovich, though Mason believes him to be alive.

In 1968, the team is sent to Vietnam and they recover dossier on Dragovich from a Russian defector in Hue during the Tet Offensive. Mason finds the defector is none other than Reznov. And at a At the crash site the plane collapses and they are captured by Viet Cong and Spetznaz infiltrators. Bowman is executed, while Woods and Mason hijack an Mi-24 Hind and rescue Reznov at Kravchenko's base before confronting Kravchenko himself. Woods stabs Kravchenko, gaining the upper hand, but Kravchenko pulls the pins off four grenades strapped to his chest; Woods sacrifices himself by pushing Kravchenko and himself out a window. In a huge explosion, Mason presumes the two dead. Meanwhile, Hudson and Weaver interrogate Clarke in Kowloon Walled City. Clarke reveals the location of a hidden facility in Mount Yamantau before being killed by Dragovich's men. Hudson and Weaver move to destroy the facility and receive a transmission requesting to meet at Rebirth Island. Mason and Reznov head there to assassinate Steiner at the same time, succeeding just as Hudson and Weaver arrive. Mason is adamant that Reznov executed Steiner, but Hudson had witnessed Mason carrying out the act alone.

At this time , Hudson and Weaver are revealed as Mason's interrogators. Dragovich has communist sleeper cells placed all over the United States which, when ordered by the numbers broadcast, will release the Nova-6 gas. As a result, the U.S. is preparing a retaliatory strike on the Soviet Union, which will lead to a full-scale war. Now Mason has any knowledge of the numbers station to abort the gas launch. An assault on the Rusalka begins, with Mason and Hudson infiltrating the underwater submarine and broadcast station protected by the ship, intended to be used for an invasion of the U.S. after the planned Nova-6 attack. Confirming that the Rusalka is the numbers station, Hudson calls in the US Navy to destroy the ship and its underwater base. Mason and Hudson finally confront Dragovich in the lower levels of the facility. Dragovich taunts Mason and hints at his hand in assassinating Kennedy, but Mason drowns him and escapes. Archive footage of President Kennedy prior to his assassination is shown, revealing Mason in the crowd, implicitly suggesting that Mason may have carried out his initial programming.

Gameplay

Call of Duty: Black Ops is a first-person shooter video game much like other Call of Duty titles (Indicaters, movements, markers etc;) Among the weapons new to the series in Black Ops are crossbows with bolts and explosive ammunition, Dragon's Breath rounds and ballistic knives. . Plot

Game started with Price and Nikolai evacuate critically wounded Soap to a Russian loyalist safe-house in  (After killing General Shepard in MW2 ) Himachal Pradesh, Northern India, but soon discover that Makarov has sent forces out to their position to kill them. Yuri assists them in providing a safe extraction from the region. Meanwhile, the war between Russia and the United States concludes when a Delta Force team, call-signed Metal, manages to blow up the Russian broad spectrum jamming tower on top of the Wall Street Stock Exchange, successfully repelling Russian Forces in New York City and forcing an emergency withdrawal from the East Coast.

Two months later, Makarov attacks a plane containing the Russian President, Boris Vorshevsky, to derail Vorshevsky's plans of negotiating a peace treaty with the United States. In the midst of the plane crashing, members of the F.S.O. attempt to secure Vorshevsky, but are killed by Makarov and his men when they attempt extraction by helicopter. Makarov reveals his plans to the president for Russia's future - he intends to have Russia control the whole of Europe, using the country's nuclear arsenal as a show of force. Vorshevsky refuses to give over the nuclear launch codes, leaving Makarov no choice but to locate his weakness: Vorshevsky's daughter, Alena. Makarov has chemical bombs transported from Sierra Leone into Europe, where they are planted into every major city in NATO affiliated countries on the continent, detonating them, despite the efforts of an SAS team trying to prevent this from happening in London.


 Price's team get a lead from his former commanding officer leading them to Somalia, and learn through torturing the leader of a terrorist group the identity of the bomb maker as Volk, the CEO of Fregata Industries, who transported the bombs. Metalreceives his location from Price shortly afterwards, and manage to capture and extract him from Paris with the help of GIGN and other U.S. forces, though the battle in Paris causes the Eiffel Tower to collapse.

Metal sends info to Price's team on Makarov's location, leading them to Prague. Price's team attempts to assassination Makarov; however, Makarov knows of this and thwarts the attempt, attempting to kill Price and his men. Soap is mortally wounded as a result, but not before he hears him mention that Yuri knows him well. Soap passes on what Makarov told him before succumbing to his wounds despite efforts by Price to get him medical attention, and an enraged Price forces Yuri, at gunpoint, to reveal what Makarov meant. Yuri reveals that he was a former ultranationalist who worked alongside Makarov during the arms deal in Pripyat when they helped evacuate Imran Zakhaev after the assassination attempt on him.
Although Yuri thought he was following a good cause, the detonation of a nuclear device in the Middle East sickened him, leading him into an attempt at stopping the airport massarce in Moscow; Makarov, aware of his actions, shot him and left him for dead. Yuri's guilt-ridden vengeance barely convinces Price in maintaining their alliance.Price alerts Metal that Alena's location at a safehouse in Berlin has been discovered. Despite launching a rescue operation to recover her, Alena is abducted before Metal can reach her position, but the chopper she is taken in is tracked back to Vorshevsky's location.  

Metal leads a joint task force with Price and Yuri to a Siberian diamond mine where they manage to secure and rescue the Vorshevsky family; however, during extraction, Metal are killed when they stay behind in the collapsing mine to ensure that Price and the Vorshevskys can escape. With the Russian president secured, all Russian forces are ordered to withdraw from Europe, thus ending the hostility between the United States and Russia.

Three months after the war ends, Price and Yuri finally manage to track down Makarov to a hotel in the Arabian peninsula of the Middle East. Armed with heavy equipment, the pair assault the hotel and reach the top of the building as Makarov awaits an incoming helicopter to extract him. When Yuri is injured, Price continues on his own, and prevents Makarov from leaving by crashing his helicopter into the atrium of the hotel. Makarov survives, and prepares to execute Price but is shot by Yuri, who is promptly killed by Makarov in return. Price manages to gain the upper hand and kill Makarov by tying a steel cable around his neck and forcing him through the glass roof of the hotel, hanging the ruthless terrorist. After the death of Imran Zakhaev an ultranationalist named Vladimir Makarov, Zakhaev's right-hand man, begins a campaign of revenge against the west, by committing acts of terrorism on European and International soil. Five years after the events of the first game in 2016, Private First Class Joseph Allen participates in a military operation alongside the U.S. Army Rangers, stationed in Afghanistan, by assisting them in taking back a city from insurgents. Impressed by Allen's capabilities, Lieutenant General Shepherd, who oversaw the operation, recruits him into the Task Force 141 - an elite, multi-national counter-terrorist unit under Shepherd's command. And two other 141 members, Captain John "Soap" Mactavish and Sgt. Gary "Roach" Sanderson, infiltrate a Russian airbase in the Tian Shan mountains to retrieve an Attack Characterization System (ACS) module from a downed American satellite, narrowly escaping capture.

Allen is soon sent on an undercover mission in Russia for the CIA, joining Makarov in a massacre of civilians at an airport in Moscow. However, Makarov, who has been aware of Allen's true identity, kills him during extraction, leaving his body behind to spark a war between the Russian Federation and the United States.
Russia retaliates by launching a surprise invasion on the East Coast of the United States after bypassing its early warning system, triggering the war between Russia and United States, and the military forces in the mainland are scattered to defend against the invasion. Task Force 141 is sent to a favela in Rio de Janeiro to capture Makarov's weapons dealer, based on intel on the weapons used at the airport. There, after capturing the dealer, they learn that Makarov's worst enemy, known only as "Prisoner 627", is incarcerated in a Russian gulag east of Petropavlovsk. Task Force 141 assaults the prison and manages to free 627, who is revealed to be Captain Price.

Price agrees to aid the 141, but insists that the war in America needs to end. He leads the 141 to raid a Russian port and gain control of a ballistic missile submarine. Once inside the vessel, Price launches a ballistic missile towards Washington, D.C. and sets its nuclear warhead to detonate in the upper atmosphere.
The resulting EMP disables all electronic devices across the eastern seaboard, leaving Russian and American forces without logistics, tanks or air support, but giving the Americans a much needed advantage. U.S. Air Force went to bomb Russian-occupied strategic structures (including the White House) across Washington D.C. but the strikes are aborted, when green flares are lit on top of these structures, showing that the Americans have recaptured them and that the city remains in American hands.

Meanwhile, the 141 narrows down Makarov's hiding place to two separate locations, with the group splitting up; Price and Soap travel to an aircraft boneyard in Afghanistan, while Roach and Ghost raid Makarov's safehouse on the Georgian-Russian border.

 At the safehouse, Roach and his team obtain Makarov's "operations playbook" and escape. However, when they reach the extraction point, Shepherd betrays them by shooting them. Price and Soap, already aware of Shepherd's betrayal, escape a battle between Shepherd's and Makarov's forces, but are branded as terrorists as a result.

During the escape, Price contacts Makarov on an open radio channel, where Makarov reluctantly reveals Shepherd's mountain base in Afghanistan.
Price and Soap raid the base in an attempt to take revenge on Shepherd in a suicide mission; during the infiltration, Shepherd sets the base to self-destruct and attempts to escape on a boat, with Price and Soap pursuing him. At the climax of a boat pursuit, Shepherd sails into an MH-53 Pave Low, but Price shoots it down as he and Soap tumble over a waterfall.

A dazed Soap stumbles towards the crash of the helicopter, where it is revealed that Shepherd had survived. Soap follows Shepherd and attempts to kill him, but Shepherd stabs him in the chest.
Price arrives and engages Shepherd in a hand-to-hand fight. Shepherd slowly gains the upper hand on Price, but Soap manages to pull the knife out of his own chest and throw it back at Shepherd, piercing the general's left eye and killing him. In the aftermath, Price helps evacuate Soap for medical attention, in which his closest ally, Nikolai, reveals he knows somewhere safe.

Gameplay

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 features a cooperative mode titled Special Ops, which consists of independent missions. . Most of the Special Ops missions may be played alone (expect 2 missions). Special Ops is divided into five separate groups of missions: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, and Echo. Each mission may be played at three difficulty levels: regular, hardened, or veteran and can earn up to 3 stars for a mission. There are a total of 23 missions with their respective 69 stars available for unlock.

The online multiplayer mode of Modern Warfare 2retains the same experience points and unlockable reward system as that of Call of Duty 4, with game modes that include Free-For-All, Search & Destroy, Demolition, Sabotage, Domination, Team Deathmatch, Mercenary Team Deathmatch, Headquarters, and Capture The Flag. The player can choose three of fifteen killstreaks and can earn guide a Predator missile strike after five kills, and control an AC-130 gunship, or Chopper Gunner, after eleven kills. Players can also gain a tactical nuke if they obtain a 25 kill streak.
The nuke will achieve victory in a match for the player or team that called in the nuke regardless of whether the team was winning or losing at the time the nuke was called in, and will kill everyone on the map, including the player.This is one of the best multiplayer game ending I ever.

During the singleplayer campaign, the player controls five different characters over the course of seven days. The player begins the game controlling Private First Class Joseph Allen, as U.S. Army Ranger stationed in Afghanistan,as Sergeant Gary "Roach" Sanderson, a member of an elite special forces, as Private James Ramirez, unnamed International Space Station astronaut moments before the station's destruction, and as Captain John "Soap" MacTavish .

Development

The game was first announced under the title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 by Activision on December 3, 2008 and the game was tested in an internal beta by the development team. On August 20, 2009, Robert Bowling revealed through Twitter that Kevin McKidd, Craig Fairbrass, Barry Pepper, Keith David, and Glenn Morshower were confirmed voice actors for the game. It was later confirmed that McKidd would voice the protagonist, "Soap" MacTavish. Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe composed the sound track for CODMW2. Also 2 short films released for MW 2 named Find Makarov and Operation Kingfish.

Sales And Critical Response

, Modern Warfare 2 sold approximately 4.7 million units in the United States and the UK combined in the first 24 hours of its release. The total revenue from first day sales in the U.S. and the UK was $310 million, making Modern Warfare 2 the biggest entertainment launch in history, surpassing in revenue its predecessor, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare  as well as items from other media types. After five days of sales, the game had earned revenue figures of $550 million worldwide. As of January 18, 2010, it has taken over $1 billion in sales. In September 2011, Modern Warfare 3 producer Mark Rubin, said that the game's sales are between 28 and 29 million. The game is the second best-selling game of all time in both the UK and the U.S. 

Modern Warfare 2 received critical acclaim, especially its console versions. Reviewers praised the in-depth story mode, mini missions, and multiplayer. Famitsu named Modern Warfare 2 as the number one game on the top 10 video games sold in 2009,and it also gave the game a score of 39/40, being one of the few Western games released in Japan to have the same score as Grand Theft Auto IV. It received 94/100 from Metacritic, 9.75/10 from Game informers, 9.5/10 from Game trailers, IGN, and OXM. Also it received 5 out of 5 stars from various reviewers like The Gardian,G4,Game Spy etc;.

Awards

At the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards, Modern Warfare 2received the Best Shooter and Best Multiplayer awards. GameSpy and GameTrailers gave the game the Best Overall Game of 2009 award. From Game Trailers received the game the Best Multiplayer award including the Best First-Person Shooter award. It also received 6 awards from GameTrailers.
